Jury Duty Summons Vigil: Day 5

Today is Day 5 of my keeping lonely vigil at my mailbox, hoping for a jury duty summons calling me to serve on the panel that will hear the case of the local joyriding punk-ass moron. The Turd Bobby Davis was at the wheel of a stolen vehicle that smacked into a train parked astride a crossing. But as it often does these days, things have taken a turn for the surreal.

His prior youthful lapses in judgement, as well as his parents' acceptance of his bad behavior aren't really helping the Turd. And his supporters aren't doing him any favors, either.

"He didn't mean to hit that train on purpose," said one of the teen's supporters. "He didn't mean to be speeding right then and purposely smashing into the train."
No shit, Sherlock. Compassion for a friend or family member is understandable and expected, but the blantant apologism for Turd Bobby Davis makes me physically ill. What kind of a man are his parents trying to raise, anyway? One who avoids taking responsibility for his actions, it appears, never accepting the outcome of his personal behavior. And his attorney seems to have a poor grasp of Texas criminal code as it applies to this case:
"The charge as it was reflected this morning is murder, which would indicate that it was an intentional and motivated act," said the teen's attorney. "I don't think that the facts even under the scenario that was presented will support a murder charge."
The statute says nothing about intent, only actions. Perhaps Haynes is only trying to taint the jury pool to force a change of venue.

However, charging Turd Bobby Davis with murder seems a bit much. While the statute defines felony murder as causing a death that occurs while a felony is being committed, personally I'd settle for involuntary manslaughter. To me it just seems a better fit given what is known about the incident so far.

In the end these grieving families will bond publicly on one commonality they have left: blood money. Whatever Haynes and his ilk can squeeze out of Union Pacific in the course of a circus civil suit.

So I'm left with a profound disappointment in people whose values system allows them blame anyone except their obviously guilty Turd Bobby Davis, and with my continued hope that someday soon the Harris County communique' arrives that calls me to a civic service of a most pointed sort.

Laurie Kendrick:

Have you seen his family? Heard them talk? Straight from the Free Bird Trailer Park, I'd say.

His grandmother: "He's all hurt and beat up. He don't need to be in no jail cell when he should be at home with his family to heal on up".

Such find examples of Houston public education. Best he's a product of HISD
