A Veneer of Certainty

I'm really not understanding the problem some people have with the "Astronaut Sex!" issue of Texas Monthly. Two people in mock spacesuits on a seedy motel bed. That's it. By the prevailing comments to the Chronicle article the rage has to do with the word "sex" being out in the open where some impressionable young mind will read it and, presumably, morph in a hormone-addled sex junkie with a sassy mouth and a taste for the bizarre.

I've got $5 that says those people worried about the effect of a single word are the same ones who shrieked loudest over the HPV vaccine and the perception that it would turn good daughters into sex fiends.

Get a grip, people. Chances are excellent that the younguns have already seen the word and found a dozen abbreviated versions for use in texting to each other.

Does Houston really need another steakhouse? The recent buzz about Roger Clemens' new steakhouse has me pondering how far the Clemens theme is extended to the dining experience...

1. Order a steak.
2. Cook demands option to occasionally leave the kitchen to attend son's home ec classes.
3. Meal arrives but waiter holds out steak for indefinite period, "weighing his options".
4. Steak flavor and texture are both inconsistent.
5. Andy Pettitte swipes your side dishes to another table.
6. Valet parking rate raised during the meal to compensate for food costs.

I've eaten at more than a few Houston steakhouses and have been profoundly unimpressed with the service, food quality or both. Adding one more seems like a farce, especially given the way half the city views Clemens right now.

I'll try the place with a group and report back.

Even after a disastrous, multi-billion dollar war by fiat, this doofus cannot see fit to approve a few bil for children in need? In what kind of bizarro world is our president living?
